How to Measure for 3D Wood Wall Panels

Quick Answer

Measure your wall's height and width in inches, multiply to get square footage, then divide by the panel's coverage area and round up to account for cuts and waste.

Step-by-Step Measurement Guide

1. Measure the wall height and width: Use a tape measure to get the height and width of the wall in inches. Measure at several points because walls are often not perfectly straight—use the largest measurement to ensure you have enough panels. Always measure at least twice to confirm the largest dimensions.
2. Calculate the total square footage: Multiply the height by the width to get the area in square inches. Then divide by 144 to convert to square feet. For example, a 96-inch by 120-inch wall is 11,520 square inches, or 80 square feet. Double-check your math—a small error can lead to a big shortage.
3. Determine the coverage per panel: Find the panel's dimensions in inches and multiply them to get the panel's area. For a 12×12 panel, that's 144 square inches, or 1 square foot. For a 12.4×11.8 panel, it's about 146.32 square inches, or roughly 1.02 square feet. Verify the exact dimensions from the product page—don't assume all panels are the same size.
4. Divide and round up: Divide the wall's square footage by the panel's coverage to get the number of panels needed. Always round up to the nearest whole panel. For a 80-square-foot wall with 1-square-foot panels, you need at least 80 panels. Round up even if the decimal is small—cutting a panel to fit leaves waste.
5. Add extra for waste and cuts: Add 10% to 15% more panels to account for cuts around corners, outlets, and edges, as well as any mistakes. For 80 panels, that means ordering 88 to 92 panels. If your wall has many obstacles, lean toward the 15% extra.
6. Plan the layout before ordering: Sketch the wall and mark where you'll need cuts. This helps you decide if you can use partial panels in less visible spots and ensures you order the right quantity. A quick sketch can save you from ordering too many or too few.

Panels That Fit Your Project

• 3D Wood Wall Panel | Cumaru Deep | 12×12": Each panel features individually placed wood pieces, creating a unique, artistic mosaic pattern. Because each panel is handcrafted, slight variations in the mosaic mean you should order all panels at once to keep the look consistent across your wall.

• 3D Wood Wall Panel | Velvet Walnut | 12.4×11.8": Solid wood construction designed to retain its natural beauty for years. This durable construction means your panels will last, but it also means proper measurement is key—you want to avoid cutting a premium panel incorrectly.
